Zachary Levi gets to grips with his superhero powers in Shazam! trailer

The teaser trailer for Warner Bros’ Shazam! debuted over night at San Diego Comic-Con and you can watch it right here.

Starring Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans and Ron Cephas Jones, Shazam! is directed by David F. Sandberg and based on the DC Comics character of the same name.

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Asher Angel) case, by shouting out one word —SHAZAM! — this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Zachary Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them!

Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong).

The teaser trailer shows us youngster Billy Batson’s life and reveals his obsession with superhero comics. When he stands up to bullies who target his friend, Billy comes into contact with a wizard and his life changes.

From the look of the trailer, Shazam! is going to be a zany adventure different in tone from many of the other DC movies that have been released in recent years. It’s safe to say our hopes are high!

Shazam! is set for release in April 2019.
