As you’ve likely heard by now Cher one of the new additions to the cast for Mamma Mia’s upcoming sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and she’ll be playing the mother of Meryl Streep’s character Donna.
A new featurette has been released showing some of Cher’s scenes as she sings the ABBA classic Fernando. The featurette intersperses interviews with the cast and crew with behind-the-scenes footage of the film.
Producer Gary Goetzman excitedly speaks to the camera saying, āIn just a few minutes Cher is going to be up on that balcony, singing Fernando. Can you believe that?ā as he gets ready to film a scene with the music icon.

The cast and crew enthuse about having Cher be part of the film with writer/director Ol Parker saying, āEvery time you offer someone a part, you have to have the next person in mind but in this case there was only one… Cher!ā
It seems that Cher even has the seal of approval from ABBA’s very own Bjƶrn Ulvaeus who remarks, āTo hear her sing Fernando… she was perfect for that song.ā
Of course, Cher herself teases her role in the film explaining, āI come in in a helicopter, then I land and I come walking up with a cane⦠Iām different.ā
She also talks fondly of her love for the music of ABBA revealing, āWhen I used to hear ABBA, itās so fabulous. I mean the lyrics just totally grab me. Itās things Iāve felt a million times so it was easy to sing.ā
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is the follow-up to 2008’s Mamma Mia! The Movie, which grossed more than $600 million around the world. The sequel will take you back to the magical Greek island of Kalokairi and many of the original cast are returning including Meryl Streep as Donna, Julie Walters as Rosie and Christine Baranski as Tanya. Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper reunite as Sophie and Sky, while Pierce Brosnan, Stellan SkarsgĆ„rd and Colin Firth return to play Sophieās three possible dads: Sam, Bill and Harry.
New additions to the cast include Lily James (Cinderella) as Young Donna, Alexa Davies (A Brilliant Young Mind) as Young Rosie, Jessica Keenan Wynn (Broadwayās Beautiful) as Young Tanya, Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) as Young Sam, Josh Dylan (Allied) as Young Bill and Hugh Skinner (Kill Your Friends) as Young Harry.
The film is produced by Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman and written and directed by Ol Parker (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) from a story by Catherine Johnson, Richard Curtis and Parker.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is released in UK cinemas on 20th July 2018
