The trailer has arrived for White Boy Rick, a new film starring Matthew McConaughey based on a true story.

Starring alongside McConaughey are Richie Merritt, Bel Powley, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Brian Tyree Henry, Rory Cochrane, RJ Cyler, Jonathan Majors, Eddie Marsan, Bruce Dern and Piper Laurie. White Boy Rick is directed by Yann Demange (Top Boy) with a screenplay by Steve Kloves, Logan Miller, Noah Miller, and Andy Weiss.

White Boy Rick is set in 1980s Detroit at the height of the crack epidemic and the War on Drugs. It’s based on the moving true story of a blue-collar father and his teenage son, Rick Wershe Jr. (Merritt), who became an undercover police informant and later a drug dealer, before he was abandoned by his handlers and sentenced to life in prison.

The trailer paints a gritty picture but also promises plenty of humour along the way. The relationship between Richard Wershe Sr (McConaughey) and his son is highlighted as the family’s dysfunctional dynamic is revealed.

Alongside the trailer, a series of stills from the film have been released. You can see them in our gallery below:

White Boy Rick is released in cinemas on 7th December 2018.
