Sky 1 have announced a new comedy-drama from the makers of Cold Feet and Rev.

Living the Dream will star Philip Glenister (Life on Mars, Outcast, Mad Dogs), Lesley Sharp (Scott & Bailey, Paranoid), Rosie Day (Prime Suspect 1973) and Brenock O’Connor (Game of Thrones) and will be directed by Saul Metzstein (Doctor Who, You Me and the Apocalypse) and Phillippa Langdale (Skins, Dickensian).

The series will follow the Pemberton family – husband Mal (Glenister), wife Jen (Sharp) and their two teenagers Tina (Day) and Freddie (O’Connor) on their journey after leaving England for a new life in Florida.

Living the Dream will be set in a trailer park which Mal has purchased in the hope of creating a successful business though the eccentric residents are less than pleased with the new management. Jen and the kids fight to adapt to suburbia and the American High School system.

Alongside the main cast, Living the Dream also stars Kim Fields (The Facts of Life), Kevin Nash (Magic Mike) and Leslie Jordan (Will and Grace) as the Pemberton’s new larger than life friends.

Adam MacDonald, director of Sky 1, said: “Living the Dream is going to be great fun – a sparky, funny comedy drama that both embraces and punctures the notion of living the great American dream. I can’t wait to see Phil, Lesley and the Big Talk gang take the Sky 1 viewers on an adventure of a lifetime.”

Lesley Sharp commented: “This is an amazing opportunity to work on a warm and witty comedy drama with a great colleague Phil Glenister. It’s wonderful to be working with him again and the talented and inspired team at Big Talk.”
Philip Glenister said: “Really looking forward to making Living the Dream a reality! Along with a hugely talented cast and crew! Fire up my trailer park!”

With an experienced cast and a promising premise Living the Dream has the potential to be not only a hit comedy but a series filled with both boldness and heart. After all, nothing Philip Glenister ever does is dull.

Filming on the series is underway and the series will be available on Sky 1 later this year.
