Quinn (Katie Lowes) was left in charge of OPA by Olivia (Kerry Washington) on the latest episode of Scandal.

Feeling that her boss wasn’t as invested in her business as she used to be, Quinn confronted her and was shot down. Olivia asked the gladiators to look through a series of case files to help Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) choose which prisoners to pardon.

Quinn chose the file of a man who was imprisoned wrongly for the murder of a teenager and she found a surprisingly bolshy attitude that helped her sell the case to Fitz. Afterwards Olivia admitted it had all been a test to see if Quinn could fill her shoes.

Meanwhile Rowan (Joe Morton) gave David (Joshua Malina) the head of Samantha (Zoe Perry) so he could identify who she really was. He stored the head in Abby’s (Darby Stanchfield) fridge until Jake (Scott Foley) could take DNA and find out more about her.

Jake came good and found out that the person Samantha was taking orders from was none other than Maya Pope (Khandi Alexander).

Elsewhere in the episode Marcus (Cornelius Smith Jr.) turned down a job offer from Mellie (Bellamy Young) in favour of continuing to work with Fitz and Rowan told Olivia he was leaving town.

The penultimate episode of the season is Tick Tock. As the clock ticks down to the inauguration of the first female president of the United States, Olivia takes a big risk to ensure Mellie’s safety.
