MTV Movie & TV Awards reveals more details

New categories and performers for this year’s awards have been announced.

MTV has announced more details about the inaugural 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards, which takes place on Monday 8th May 2017 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

Two new categories – Trending and Best Musical Moment – have been revealed. Trending, presented by Time Inc’s Instant, celebrates the moments that have dominated the Internet through clicks, shares, memes and social chatter while Best Musical Moment, in partnership with musical.ly, celebrates the use of song in movies and television.

The nominations for the new categories are:

“Lady Gaga Carpool Karaoke” – The Late Late Show with James Corden (CBS)
“Cash Me Outside How Bout Dat” – Dr. Phil (CBS)
“Run The World (Girls)” Channing Tatum and Beyonce – Lip Sync Battle (SPIKE)
“Wheel of Musical Impressions with Demi Lovato” – The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (NBC)
Winona Ryder’s Winning SAG Awards Reaction – 23rd Annual SAG Awards (TNT)

Best Musical Moment (musical.ly) (Powered by truth®)

“Beauty and the Beast” – Ariana Grande and John Legend – (Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)
“Can’t Stop the Feeling” – Justin Timberlake – Trolls (20th Century Fox)
“How Far I’ll Go” – Auli’i Cravalho – Moana(Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)
“City of Stars” – Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone – La La Land (Summit Entertainment)
“You Can’t Stop” The Beat – Ensemble – Hairspray Live! (NBC)
“Be That As It May” – Herizen Guardiola – The Get Down (Netflix)
“You’re the One That I Want” – Ensemble – Grease: Live (FOX)

MTV has also announced that Fast & Furious will receive the Generation Award at this year’s awards. It marks the first time a film franchise, rather than an individual, has been recognised. Vin Diesel will accept the award and J Balvin, Pitbull and Camila Cabello will perform their single Hey Ma, taken from the latest movie in the series.

Other performers announced for the MTV Movie & TV Awards include rapper Big Sean, who will perform Jump Out the Window, and Noah Cyrus, who will perform Stay Together.

The MTV Movie & TV Awards will be hosted by actor and comedian Adam DeVine.
