Conviction 1×10 Not Okay preview

In the latest episode of Conviction, the CIU team reviewed the case of Earl Slavitt (Richard Thomas). He was five days away from facing the death-penalty for the murder of Tom Simon, a federal prosecutor who was a friend of Wallace (Eddie Cahill).

Hayes (Hayley Atwell) was asked to take the case by Wallace. Earl had previously made threats against Simon who had prosecuted him for embezzlement. Wallace knew that his friend had been against the death-penalty so wanted a final review to make sure Earl was guilty.

Hayes and Wallace went to meet Earl, who swore he wasn’t guilty. Hayes believed him and promised to do all they could to prove his innocence.

Blocking their attempts at every turn was the Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Newton. He was very confident he hadn’t made any mistakes and that executing Earl was the right thing to do.

In the final minutes before the execution, Hayes finally had the breakthrough she needed and could prove that it was Bill who should be in the chair.

She desperately tried to stop the execution but her attempts to reach Wallace were too late. Earl was wrongly executed and Bill was locked up.

Elsewhere in the episode, Sam (Shawn Ashmore) caught Maxine (Merrin Dungey) taking pain-killers and offered to help her.

The next episode of the season is Not Okay. The CIU take on the case of a young woman jailed for murdering a University star athlete, while Hayes reevaluates her relationship with Wallace.
