TV presenter and radio DJ Melvin Odoom fancies his chances at taking home the glitterball trophy on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing judging from his enthusiasm during the launch show recently.
Melvin is partnered with Janette Manrara and we think she fits his description of the ideal dance partner.
“I’m looking for someone who has a sense of humour. I think that will be my secret weapon in this competition, if I’m with someone who doesn’t get my humour it won’t work. I’m all about having fun in everything that I do in life I want to enjoy it and I think this whole process and experience will be good if I can be with someone that gets me and wants to have fun as well as do a great dance routine. I’ve been told I should have someone who is roughly the same height as me because I think I’m the shortest guy in the competition. As long as I get someone I can spin around comfortably I’ll be good!”
Being part of Strictly is something that Melvin has had his eye on for a while. “It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do, my whole family, including myself, have been big fans of the show since day dot. My first passion is music, hence why I am a radio DJ, and I think that music and dance go hand in hand. I’m quite excited about learning a brand new skill in the ballroom and meeting all of the dancers and all the other contestants. I just think it’s the biggest show on TV right now – why would you not want to be on it?”
Melvin can’t wait to get stuck into this year’s series. “Some people come into the competition thinking it’s work but it’s such an amazing thing to be doing and I am about enjoying everything. I don’t think I realised how big a machine this whole thing is. I’m going to enjoy every second of it and for me the most important people in my family are my mum and my sister and they’re so overjoyed about the whole thing and I would really love them to both be there for the first show.”
