Nashville losing two series regular characters ahead of season 5

The recent celebratory news that Nashville is moving to CMT is tarnished slightly with the announcement of two cast member departures ahead of its upcoming fifth season.

If you haven’t seen the fourth season of Nashville and want to avoid spoilers we suggest you stop reading now.

TVLine reports that Will Chase (Luke Wheeler) and Aubrey Peeples (Layla Grant) will not be part of the cast when the show returns. It’s unclear at this point if either actor will appear at the beginning of the season to wrap up their stories.

The news is sure to be divisive among fans of the show. Chase’s character Luke Wheeler has struggled to find a place on the show since he broke up with Rayna James (Connie Britton) during the third season. In the fourth season of the show Luke served only to battle for Will Lexington’s (Chris Carmack) music to be heard after his public coming out.

Peeples’ character Layla Grant on the other hand had been dumped by her manager and her boyfriend Avery (Jonathan Jackson) after returning to her scheming ways.

It’ll be interesting to see how the show handles both exits as Luke has Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) and Will signed to his label and Layla is one of Highway 65’s priority artists.
