Top 10 video games of 2015

2015 was an incredible year for video game fans on all platforms and now is the time for us to look back at the best games of last year.

Last year saw the release of hundreds of high quality new releases. The list below are my 10 favourite games of 2015 based on those that I played and enjoyed the most. Picking just 10 was much harder than I expected and my original short list was over 30 strong!

Did your favourite titles make our Top 10 video games of 2015 countdown? Keep reading to find out…

10. Until Dawn

Being a big horror fan I was really looking forward to Until Dawn and was really pleased that it didn’t disappoint. Some great jump scares, an excellent cast and a story with enough twists to keep you guessing. It’s well worth playing through a few times and also fun to watch others play to see how their stories and decisions differ.

9. Transformers: Devastation

I’ve been a huge Transformers fan since the the 80’s and always wanted a proper decent Generation 1 game. This year my prayers were finally answered thanks to Platinum Games. They delivered a fantastic action game that not only featured the Generation 1 Transformers – it also looked exactly like the old cartoons too. It’s a fantastic game that really takes some skill to master once you start on the harder difficulties.

8. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

CD Projekt Red delivered an incredible RPG with The Witcher 3. Once you start playing it’s hard to stop and there’s seemingly endless things to do. It’s the kind of game that you can easily sink 100 hours into and when you’re done you just want to jump in again. Brilliant.

7. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate

This year Ubisoft went for a less ambitious title and focused on delivering a strong single player game. Their gamble paid off with the best Assassin’s Creed game for several years. The Frye twins were both great characters and the new setting of Victorian London was wonderful to explore.

6. Fallout 4

I’m still playing Fallout 4 and I seem to find new stuff each time I do. There’s so much to do and it’s all a lot of fun from exploring to combat to base-building. It’s a game that I’m sure I’ll be playing well into 2016.

5. Destiny: The Taken King

Destiny was one of my favourite games of 2014 and Bungie has successfully managed to continually improve the game. The Taken King expansion made the biggest improvements yet. Bungie really know how to make a wonderful shooter. It’s such an addictive title that I keep coming back to and actually wish I could devote more time to it.

4. Halo 5: Guardians

Halo is one of my favourite series and 343 Industries did a brilliant job with Halo 5: Guardians. The campaign wasn’t as great as I’d hoped but the multiplayer has me hooked. My favourite mode is SWAT which I can often be found playing well into the small hours. With the constant updates the game keeps improving and I’ve yet to really get stuck into Forge.

3. Rocket League

I’ve never been a big fan of cars or football but last year I discovered I absolutely love playing football with rocket powered cars. Rocket League is so simple but insane amounts of fun. It’s a great title for a quick session but hard to put down once you start playing. After dropping a crazy amount of hours into it I’m addicted to 1v1 ranked play.

2. Bloodborne

As a big fan of Dark Souls I couldn’t wait to get stuck into Bloodborne. I’m rubbish at it and probably won’t finish it for months but I absolutely love everything about it. The combat, the gothic setting, the music and even the difficulty are all amazing.

1. Life is Strange

Life is Strange is the only game on my top 10 list that I knew nothing about when I first played it last year. I completely fell in love with the game and genuinely looked forward to each new episode. The design, characters and setting were so well done along with a brilliant story that you could really influence based on your actions. It’s another game that’s well worth a few plays and interesting to watch others play too. If you’ve yet to play it you should just go and buy it now.
