The X-Files

The X-Files will return to Fox for a six-episode season it has been officially confirmed.

TVLine reports that Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny will reprise their roles as Dana Scully and Fox Mulder respectively. The new season is expected to be a continuation of the series with production set to begin this summer.

“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” said X-Files creator Chris Carter, who will oversee the new episodes. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”

The X-Files ended in 2002 and was last seen when its second big screen outing arrived in 2008. The X-Files: I Want To Believe received a mixed reaction from fans and critics as it steered away from the mythology of the show for a standalone story.
