The X Factor 2014 week 7 live show recap

Big Band night proved to be a mixed bag last week on The X Factor 2014 and it resulted in Jay James being eliminated from the competition.

After Mel B and Cheryl decided to save Stevi Ritchie, the vote went into deadlock and it was revealed that Jay had received the fewest public votes. We have to say we didn’t expect Stevi to ever survive a sing-off!

Tonight the acts sang the songs of two music icons in Elton John Vs Whitney Houston week. With Simon Cowell, Cheryl, Mel B and Louis Walsh on hand to give their comments, the acts had to pull it out of the bag to secure their place in the competition.

Find out how everyone got on in tonight’s live show…

Lauren Platt

The song:Ā How Will I Know?

Our verdict:Ā Lauren is one of the best singers of the competition this year however tonight we weren’t sold on her performance and thought that the Whitney classic was very pitchy in parts.

The comments:Ā Louis loved the song and Lauren’s dance moves. Mel B thought it was her best performance yet and Simon made up for his harsh comments from last week with compliments.

The song:Ā I Will Always Love You

Our verdict:Ā Ben took on too much this week by performing Whitney Houston’s super ballad I Will Always Love You and it wasn’t great. We didn’t think he delivered enough emotion and was pitchy at times.

The comments: As alwaysĀ Louis was paying Ben compliments and so was Simon Cowell however Cheryl called it a big mistake and Mel B was on the fence too.

Only The Young

The song:Ā Something About The Way You Look Tonight

Our verdict:Ā Only The Young are always fun to watch and this week was no exception. The first Elton John track of the evening was highly entertaining and of a higher standard. For us this was one of the highlights of the evening. We love this band.

The comments:Ā Mel B loved the performance and even said she would love to join the band. Cheryl loved it too and gave the band some advice whilst Simon commented that Only The Young had come to life in the last 3 weeks and was very positive about the band’s career.

Andrea Faustini

The song:Ā I Have Nothing

Our verdict:Ā Andrea is for us what the competition is about. The guy can sing and perform like a true star and he always delivers on emotion. I Have Nothing is a big track and it brings back some great memories back of the nineties. Andrea did a good job with the song to be fair but possibly this was a little over his league but then most Whitney songs are.

The comments:Ā Again Louis was impressed with the Italian’s voice. Cheryl loved it too and said she was slowly running out of ways to say he was great. Simon didn’t think it was perfect but still loved Andrea’s performance.

Fleur East

The song:Ā I’m Every Woman

Our verdict:Ā Fleur is a bit hit and miss sometimes and this week she hit all the right notes for us. We loved everything about the performance, Fleur’s look, her vocals were spot on and her moves were very cool indeed. It was probably the performance of the night.

The comments:Ā Louis thought that the young singer was getting better and better every week and Mel B told Simon he was lucky to have her. Cheryl loved everything apart from Fleur’s dress but we will agree to disagree.

Stevi Ritchie

The song:Ā I’m Still Standing

Our verdict:Ā Stevi is undoubtedly the underdog/joke act of the season. His song choice seemed very appropriate and we enjoyed the ridiculous performance. Elton John was impartial to fun so we thought Stevi did a great job atĀ making the song fun for everyone who was watching.

The comments:Ā Louis, who quite often has a joke act seemed to not get the Egyptian theme or song. Mel B also thought there was ‘a problem in the house’. Simon thought it was quite fun and laughed a fair bit too and thought Stevi would be remembered for this performance. Stevi as always took it well and is making the best of his time on the X Factor.

Stereo Kicks

The song – Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me

Our verdict:Ā There has been mixed reactions to Stereo Kicks’ performances over the weeks but this week to boys were flawless and sang Elton John’s beautifully. The band has always had great harmonies but we thought this week particularly the boys were great and we loved being ableĀ to hear eachĀ of their voices individually.

The comments:Ā Mel B said the boys deserved a standing ovation for this performance and Simon thought the group was finally coming together and that Stereo Kicks ‘did it’.

Tune in to ITV tomorrow night at 8pm for the results to find out which act will be leaving the competition.
