The Walking Dead renewed for a sixth season

Ahead of its fifth season next week, The Walking Dead has been renewed for a sixth season.

The hit AMC zombie drama, which airs on FOX here in the UK, is the most highly-rated cable show in the US and has a big following across the world. Fans have been gripped since the fourth season ended with Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the survivors trapped at Terminus.

ā€œWe could not be more excited for October 13th as we share new episodes of ā€˜The Walking Deadā€™ with fans around the globe,ā€ said AMC President Charlie Collier. ā€œIn advance of next weekā€™s season five premiere, AMC proudly confirms a sixth season order of this extraordinary series. Thank you to Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, the terrific executive producers, and the entire team who brings this compelling world and these rich characters to life. Thereā€™s plenty more Dead ahead thanks to their impressive, collective effort.ā€

The news follows the recent announcement that The Walking Dead is getting a companion show based on new stories and characters from Robert Kirkman. The new show has been commissioned for a pilot with a series order as yet unconfirmed.

The season five premiere is this Monday 13th October at 9pm First on FOX in the UK.
