Like his fellow Boys category contestant Paul Akister almost made it to the live shows back in 2012 but his mentor Louis Walsh sent him home.
All through this year’s competition 25-year-old Paul has impressed the judges with Simon Cowell claiming that Louis almost ruined the hopeful’s life by booting him out of the competition. The Lancashire born singer has lost over 3 stone and is back with a renewed passion that saw him sail through to Mel B’s judges’ house stage.
Now he’s through to the live shows we’re sure Paul is going to do everything he can to make sure he emerges victorious.
How did he celebrate making it through to the live shows? “I’d already planned to have a meal with family and friends if it was a ‘no’. And now that it’s a ‘yes’, it’s going to be A MEAL! And a few drinks.”
What does he want to achieve in the live shows? “All the way through, I’ve shown I’m an old-school soul singer. But to survive in the music industry, you have to show you can put that voice onto a modern track so I want to show I can do modern things. And show that I will last a long time.”
Will Paul show Mel B the personality she’s been asking him for? “Now I’ve got through, I don’t have to worry, I can just be myself. It’s crazy. I’ve always said there’s a fine line between being confident and cocky. So I don’t want to be too cocky. But I’ll definitely be more confident.”
The X Factor 2014 live shows kick off at 7.30pm on Saturday on ITV. Watch Paul’s judges’ houses performance below:
