Since The Corrs went on hiatus in 2006, it is Sharon Corr that has been the busiest when it comes to making music. In 2010 she released her debut solo album Dream Of You that was met with critical acclaim and released via Rhino. Four years on and she’s releasing her second studio album The Same Sun here in the UK almost a year after it was originally released in some parts of the world.

Corr has adopted a unique strategy for her new album release it over the course of a year in different parts of the world and supporting it with a tour in those places. Now The Same Sun is finally arriving in the UK we’ve had chance to have a listen and see what the fuss is all about.

The first word that comes to mind when you listen to The Same Sun is beautiful. From the dreamy opening number Raindrops through to the wintery Christmas Night, each song on the record combines Corr’s distinctive voice with gorgeous melodies and emotive lyrics. Every song on the album was co-written or written by Corr making it as personal an album as she’s ever recorded.

Lead single Take A Minute gives a strong indication of what to expect from the album. The sumptuous instrumentation provides the perfect backdrop for Corr’s vocals which float over the melody. There are many fantastic moments on the record such as the emotive piano ballad Edge of Nowhere, the wistful Thinking About You and the mid-tempo beats of Full Circle.

Our favourite track on the record is We Could Be Lovers which marries acoustic verses with a building chorus that explodes with strong vocals from Corr. The track definitely deserves repeat listens and is a definite highlight. Coming a close second is You Say which is about being there for someone through thick and thin.

The Same Sun is a gorgeous collection of songs from one of the most talented female artists in the industry. Corr really comes into her own on this album and we’re excited to see where she goes next. She may not have always got the credit she deserved in The Corrs but this solo album proves just how remarkably talented she is. Do yourself a favour and add this beautiful record to your collection.
