Prolific filmmaker, Nick Cassavetes (The Notebook, Face/Off) brings his latest comedy, The Other Woman, to UK cinemas on Wednesday 23 April and to celebrate, weāre taking a look at the careers of his all-star cast!
When Carly (Cameron Diaz) realises that her boyfriend is married, she quickly becomes acquainted with the wannabe Lotharioās spouse ( Leslie Mann). After a further affair is discovered, this time with a blonde bombshell called Amber (Kate Upton), all three female parties join forces in an act of revenge on their mutual sleaze merchant of a lover. Three talented comedic actresses take centre stage in this playful comedy and here are a few standout moments in their blossoming careersā¦
Cameron DiazĀ
Itās safe to say Cameron Diaz is a true superstar of contemporary Hollywood. Ever since she graced the silver screen for the first time alongside Jim Carrey in The Mask (1994), the world awoke to her stunning looks, luscious figure and radiant on-screen personality. 20 years later, Diaz is going from strength to strength and her CV of titles has stretched to an impressive 45 with two key titles (Sex Tape and Annie) predicted to smash the box office later in 2014. Career highlights include the outrageous Farrelly brothers comedy, Thereās Something about Mary, that saw Diaz strike up a memorable performance alongside a dynamic Ben Stiller. Itās a classic romantic comedy where a young man (Stiller) gets a chance to meet up with his dream girl from high-school (Diaz) in his adult life. The tried and tested narrative is juxtaposed with some genuinely hilarious and memorable scenes including the laugh out loud incident where Diaz has an amusing bad-hair day thanks to a dubious sample of hair gel! Although comedy remains a natural fit for Diaz, she has also successfully tried her hand at more dramatic roles, including an assured performance as the discrete pick-pocket, Jenny Everdeane, in Martin Scorsese’s 19th Century US drama, Gangs of New York.Ā
Leslie Mann
The last few years have been pivotal in the success of Leslie Mannās career and her status as a household name has been well and truly established. Before her breakthrough comedy performances in the mid noughties with Knocked Up and The 40 Year Old Virgin, Mann had featured in The Cable Guy (1996) and a cameo in contemporary auteur Wes Andersonās (The Royal Tenenbaums, The Grand Budapest Hotel) first full feature film, Bottle Rocket (1996). Working alongside world class comedic talents such as Jim Carrey and Owen Wilson in her early career cleary developed her own skills as a comedic actress. Mann particularly shone in the 2007 hit comedy Knocked Up where she starred alongside her on screen partner Paul Rudd. Even though both Mann and Rudd were cast as supporting actors in the narrative, their on-screen chemistry portraying this young couple led to their own spin off title, This is 40. Itās a fun filled feature where the lives of the couple seem to be falling apart as they both hit the tender age of 40.
Kate UptonĀ
Kate Upton made her name on the International modeling circuit after a legendary cover shot for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue elevated her to stardom. Beyond sports illustrated, Upton has featured on the covers of some of the biggest magazine franchises in the world including Elle, GQ, Vogue and Cosmopolitan. Moving up to the world of cinema is a big step for Upton but she is no stranger to the limelight! Her 2013 YouTube video of her dancing to Cali Swag Districtās āTeach Me How to Dougieā last year hitting a staggering 8 million views! It was director, Brett Ratner, who gave her the opportunity to shine on the silver screen for the 2011 crime caper, Tower Heist, where she played a small, yet amusing role as mistress to Mr. Hightowers. Another smaller role in The Three Stooges by the Farrelly brothers quickly followed in 2012. Upton stars in her first major role in The Other Woman this month. Itās going to be very interesting to see how her career develops after working alongside such talented comedic actresses such as Leslie Mann and Cameron Diaz.
