Lazarus announce their Richard III

Lazarus Theatre Company, who have brought to the stage a series of lost and celebrated classic plays, are to turn their attention next to Shakespeare’s Richard III.

With the monarch’s bones recently unearthed in Leicestershire, this is a timely reappraisal of the Bard’s take on the deformed English tyrant whose defeat in battle ended the long and bloody War of the Roses.

We can exclusively reveal that the new production, directed by Gavin Harrington-Odedra, sees Prince Plockey cast in the title role. It is the first time a black actor has played Richard III in a major production, and is a signal of Lazarus’ dedication to revitalising the classics and presenting them in original ways.

Richard III will also see the return of Roseanna Morris and Natalie Harper, actors from previous Lazarus productions.

The show will play at the Blue Elephant Theatre from 4th to 29th March, Tue – Sat at 8.00pm.
