Peter O’Toole dead aged 81

Peter O’Toole has died aged 81 his agent has confirmed.

The Irish-born actor was best-known for his role in the classic 1962 movie Lawrence of Arabia. He died yesterday at London’s Wellington hospital.

In 2003 O’Toole was awarded an honorary Oscar which he initially refused to accept. Over his career O’Toole earned 8 Oscar nominations for his work in films such as Lawrence of Arabia, Becket, The Lion in Winter and Goobye Mr Chips.

O’Toole had a reputation for his love of alcohol and was told by doctors in the mid-70s that he could die after being diagnosed with pancreatitis.

Last year O’Toole announced that he would be giving up acting but it was recently announced he would be starring in Katherine of Alexandria which is due for release in 2014.

Our thoughts are with Peter’s family and friends at this difficult time. He was a true acting legend and will be sorely missed.
