Union J – Carry You single review

Union J are going to be the next big boyband so we’re told. Louis Walsh said it repeatedly throughout last year’s series of The X Factor and it seems the press are now saying it too. Can they really be as big as One Direction? Wasting no time in getting their careers off the ground, Union J have released their debut single Carry You.

Carry You is a solid, if unremarkable, pop track that plays so safely into the group’s target demographic that there’s no way it can’t be a hit. The pop/dance-lite track has the kind of lyrics the group’s mostly female followers will love, and the kind of sing-a-long chorus that ensures you don’t forget the song’s melody long after it’s finished playing. Each of the guys gets a chance to sing their own sections of the song before they come together for the soaring chorus.

Honestly Carry You isn’t quite the killer pop track we’d hoped Union J would release but it’s fairly decent for a debut single. It will certainly do enough to guarantee them a Top 10 placing but we’re not sure it’s enough to get them to number one. Either way all eyes will be on this foursome for the rest of the year to see if they really can match One Direction in terms of success. They’ve got the looks and the voices now all they need are the killer tunes to go with them.
