Denmark crowned Eurovision winner

Emmelie de Forest from Denmark won the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest last night in Malmo, Sweden.

With 281 points Emmelie won with her song Only Teardrops. Denmark beat off stiff competition from Azerbaijan’s Farid Mammadov, who came second, and the Ukraine’s Zlata Ognevich who finished third.

Bonnie Tyler managed to improve on last year’s disappointing result from Engelbert Humperdinck coming 19th with her song Believe In Me. The biggest surprise of the evening was Ireland’s Ryan Dolan picking up only 5 points. Ireland were considered to be one of the front-runners in the competition.
