Disney Animation’s Wreck-it Ralph has just overtaken The Lion King’s box office record to become the studio’s most successful animated feature in UK and Ireland of all time. The film has taken £23m in nine weeks.
The record applies to box office gross, without taking in to consideration inflation or a considerable rise in ticket prices since The Lion King’s release in 1994. It may not be that it has filled more seats in cinemas. Even so, the upbeat homage to retro arcade gaming has been a huge success due to Disney’s good timing, as many parents are at an appropriate age to have a nostalgic view of arcade gaming.
The record breaking film features voice talent from Academy Award nominee John C. Reilly and Emmy winning comedian Sarah Silverman. The film’s director Rich Moore has also won Primetime Emmys for Futurama and The Simpsons.
