House At The End Of The Street Blu-ray review

Jennifer Lawrence and Elisabeth Shue struggle in this haphazard horror.

House At The End Of The Street

Elissa (Jennifer Lawrence – The Hunger Games) and her recently divorced mother Sarah (Elizabeth Shue – Piranha 3D) move to a small rural town. They move into a beautiful home for very low rent, however they soon learn that the house next door had a grisly killing four years previously. When Elissa befriends the surviving son, she finds out the story is far from over.

House At The End of the Street has ripped off many classic horror films to try and put together a reasonable slasher movie. However, nearly every scene of horror has been done much better many times before. The story is highly predictable and full of clichés that we have seen done before, including the single parent being overly protective of her daughter who makes friends with the dodgy boy next door.

Every single one of the scares is a “jump scare”, there is no build up or tension throughout and all these scares are pretty obvious to see coming. There is no blood and guts in the film, instead the film makers have gone for an Alfred Hitchcock style of horror/thriller, but they have left out all the things that made Hitchcock’s films so great. In fact, they have completely ripped off the story from Psycho and moved it into a modern day setting. There are even scenes that are almost shot for shot from Psycho.

House At the End of the Street isn’t a homage, instead it’s a complete rip off of classic horror. It doesn’t deliver any scares or tension and instead plays out like a poor thriller. There is nothing particularly interesting here and it’s instantly forgettable. Even the gorgeous Elizabeth Shue can’t save this from being a stinker.
