Tami Neilson, the powerhouse country and soul singer praised for her fiery vocals and commanding presence, has released a new single titled ‘Foolish Heart.' Inspired by her real-life connection to the legendary Roy Orbison, the song draws on the sweeping countrypolitan sound of the 1960s, blending lush string arrangements with Neilson’s signature vocal strength.
Recorded live in one take, both the audio and accompanying video capture a raw, emotionally charged performance. The song was born during a reflective moment driving past Orbison’s former Nashville home, bringing to life Neilson’s childhood memory of meeting him as an infant while her father's band supported him on tour.
‘Foolish Heart' is another glimpse into Neilson’s upcoming album ‘Neon Cowgirl,' out July 11 via Outside Music. The album features guest appearances by JD McPherson, Ashley McBryde, Grace Bowers, Shelly Fairchild, and Neil Finn. Known for blending roots, rockabilly, country, and soul, Neilson continues to push boundaries with deeply personal songwriting and evocative visuals.
The video for ‘Foolish Heart' aims to portray the emotional solitude performers often face after leaving the spotlight, emphasising human vulnerability with no frills—just music, one take, and a beating heart.
Neilson will bring her electrifying live show to audiences across Europe this month before joining Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan on the Outlaw Festival Tour, with additional stops at Willie’s Fourth of July Picnic and the Grand Ole Opry. Tour information is available at www.tamineilson.com/tour.
