Last night's MTV VMAs brought plenty of fantastic performances but one that really stood out was Ricky Martin.
The star was given the Latin Icon award over the course of the evening and he performed a medley of his hits. The high-energy performance saw Martin lowered on to the stage as he kicked off with his monster smash “Livin' La Vida Loca”. He followed it with ‘Pégate' and elements of ‘Shake Your Bon Bon', before bringing down the house with ‘Vente Pa' Ca' and his debut global hit ‘Maria'.
Martin brought the performance to a close with ‘The Cup of Life' and Ariana Grande was spotted in the audience singing along and dancing. Proving that he's every bit the showman he always has been, Martin sounded and looked fantastic.
While he is hugely celebrated, particularly in Latin America, it was nice to see Martin get his flowers from MTV last night. He led the Latin chart invasion of the 90s and he's consistently put out strong material in the years that followed.
Inspiring the younger generation of performers such as Maluma, and having worked with the biggest names in the industry including Madonna and Bad Bunny, Martin has had a lasting impact on music.
