The US comedian who made his comedy debut with a show about being a 30-year-old virgin has now landed a brand-new special on Amazon Prime.
Kevin James Doyle, a New York City-based comic, brings his awkward yet hilariously relatable tales of adolescent angst to the global streaming platform, following his success striking cringeworthy chords with audiences at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Diary of a Bald Kid sees Doyle skilfully blend laugh-out-loud gags with heartfelt storytelling in a soul-searching solo hour. The show explores first kisses, bullying, finding strange new hairs, and balding at age 14. Navigating adolescence was never easy, and Doyle’s relatable stories will leave viewers feeling equal parts nostalgic and grateful for surviving their own teenage years.
Discussing his confessional hour, Doyle, now 37, shared: “I found an old journal, and it brought back all the cringeworthy parts of growing up. Amidst the jokes, there’s a beautiful and relatable story about self-acceptance. This show was my chance to tell teenage Kevin that everything is going to be OK. So far, that message has resonated with live audiences, and I hope viewers around the world enjoy it too.”
Doyle’s painfully honest debut hour, The 30-Year-Old Virgin, chronicled his romantic experiences as someone raised in a traditional Christian household.
Filmed by Mister Sauce Productions at the Rumba Café in Columbus, Ohio, on a replica set of Kevin’s childhood bedroom, Diary of a Bald Kid (1 hour, 3 minutes) is included with Prime memberships or available to rent or buy on Amazon Prime Video starting at £3.49.
