Thompson Square announces heartfelt new single ‘You Were There’ ahead of summer shows

Country music duo Thompson Square is set to release their emotional new single ‘You Were There' on Friday, May 16, 2025. Arriving via T2 Records in partnership with Symphonic, the song marks a compelling return for the husband-and-wife team, known for their chart-topping harmonies and deeply felt storytelling.

Keifer Thompson opens the track with a powerful solo vocal before Shawna Thompson joins in, delivering the signature blend that has defined their sound. Penned by hit songwriters Josh Osborne, JT Harding, and Ryan Tyndell, ‘You Were There' delivers a poignant message: when it comes to true love, it’s not the specific memories that matter most—it’s the person you share them with.

The duo describes the song as a defining moment in this new chapter of their career. “From the first listen, it drew us both in and we knew it had to be a single,” said Shawna Thompson. “It’s the same feeling we had when we recorded ‘Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not’ and ‘If I Didn’t Have You.’ For the first 10 listens of the demo, I cried. And when music moves you that way you need to pay attention.”

Now operating independently, Thompson Square is embracing creative freedom. “We want to make music that means something to us, not just based on what’s trending,” added Keifer. “‘You Were There’ represents the best of who we are as artists.” The release coincides with the launch of their ‘Root’s Tour,' kicking off May 1 in Washington, DC, and includes a performance at CMA Fest in Nashville on June 6 at the Chevy Vibes Stage. Shawna Thompson will also take the spotlight for a solo show at East Side Bowl on June 10, showcasing songs from her acclaimed ‘Lean On Neon' album.
