Ingrid Andress returns with a new song & National Anthem performance

Ingrid Andress has released her latest song, ‘Footprints,' a heartfelt piano ballad originally written for her younger siblings. The deeply personal track arrives shortly after her widely praised National Anthem performance, which fans and critics have called “iconic' and marks her return to the spotlight after the furore that surrounded her last National Anthem performance last year. Blending self-reflection with intimate storytelling, ‘Footprints' offers words of encouragement for those navigating difficult times.

“This song means so much to me that I didn’t think I’d ever put it out, and now it resonates with me even more than when I wrote it,” Andress shared. “I was the first sibling to venture out on my own and pursue my dreams, and I think it’s my role as an older sister to encourage them to do the same. I want them to learn from my mistakes and to know that you can mess up and still keep moving forward. It doesn’t feel great to fail, but it can end up making you stronger.”

A New Chapter in Andress' Career

‘Footprints' is Andress’ first new music since her 2022 album ‘Good Person.' The song follows a transformative period for the Colorado-born, Nashville-based artist, including a National Anthem performance that led to a personal reckoning and a stint in rehab. Stepping away from the public eye allowed Andress to embrace a new level of honesty in her songwriting.

“It felt like the Band-Aid had been ripped off, and I’d lost the fear of making my lyrics very specific to my experience,” she explained. “Instead of trying to write songs that everyone can hear themselves in, I wanted to get back to being radically honest and really let my voice come through. It’s so much more fulfilling, and I don’t feel like I’m hiding anymore.”

That renewed confidence led her to revisit The Star-Spangled Banner, delivering a second performance that earned widespread praise. Variety applauded her for “singing it again, and getting it right this time,” while TODAY called it a “beautiful rendition.” Taste of Country noted how she “handles both the lowest and highest notes in the notoriously difficult song with aplomb” and described the crowd’s cheers as she hit the anthem’s high notes.

A Glimpse of What’s to Come

Andress first made waves with her 2020 debut album ‘Lady Like,' which became the highest-streaming debut album from a female country artist and earned three Grammy nominations, including Best Country Album and Best Country Song for the double-platinum hit ‘More Hearts Than Mine.' She has also co-written major hits, including Charli XCX’s Boys.

‘Footprints' marks the beginning of a new musical chapter, with Andress reuniting with longtime collaborator Sam Ellis to produce the track, which features warm Dobro tones and emotive string arrangements.

As she prepares to share more new music, Andress hopes her latest work inspires listeners to take a moment for introspection. “I hope my new music helps people slow down a bit and provides some time and space to remember where you started, who you are, and who you want to be moving forward.”
