Big Loud's newest signing, Kashus Culpepper, releases his sophomore single ‘Who Hurt You' today. Following the success of his debut track ‘After Me?' —which was co-written with Mark Addison Chandler and produced by Brian Elmquist (The Lone Bellow)—this new song further showcases Culpepper's emotive lyricism and reflective storytelling.
‘Who Hurt You' is a poignant letter to himself, driven by sparse piano and acoustic guitar. The song sees Culpepper grappling with accepting when other people's actions lead to undeserved consequences. With lines like “Don't you think it's time to end this hell / Let go and quit beating up yourself,” the track delves into themes of self-forgiveness and resilience.
“This song means so much to me,” Culpepper shared on social media. “It was one of the first original songs I put up online, and I wasn’t expecting it to resonate the way it did. Me and Mark, the day we wrote it, just wanted to get some things off our chests and put a melody behind them. At first, I was kinda scared to post it because of how vulnerable I was in the song. So, thank y’all for helping me realise we all go through things, and there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel. From the comments, messages, and singing it with me at my shows, it has really made this ole ‘Bama boy happy. Love y’all, and can’t wait for y’all to hear the full version.”
