Roman epic ‘Those About to Die' launches exclusively on Prime Video in the UK & Ireland on 19th July 2024.
The ten-episode series is from director Roland Emmerich (‘Independence Day') and is adapted for TV by screenwriter Robert Rodat (‘Saving Private Ryan').
Set in 79 AD during the reign of the Emperor Vespasian (played by Academy Award-winner Anthony Hopkins), ‘Those About to Die' immerses viewers in the thrilling and violent world of Rome – the richest and most advanced city in the world. The title is taken from the phrase gladiators used to say to the Emperor and high status Romans before they embarked on combat in the arena of the Coliseum. The ‘bread and circuses' are used to keep the Roman population entertained and submissive.
The stellar cast, lead by Anthony Hopkins (‘The Silence of the Lambs', ‘The Father') includes Iwan Rheon and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson from ‘Game of Thrones' as well as Tom Hughes, Sara Martins, Jojo Macari, Gabriella Pession, Dimitri Leonidas, Emilio Sakraya, Moe Hashim and Rupert Penry Jones.
Those About to Die from AGC Television was co-commissioned by High End Productions. The series is created by Robert Rodat and directed by Roland Emmerich, together with Marco Kreuzpaintner (‘Beat', ‘The Lazarus Project').
