Justin Moore returns with ‘This Is My Dirt,' his eighth studio album, released today, October 11 via The Valory Music Co. Known for his signature blend of country pride and authentic storytelling, Moore's new 12-track record celebrates the beauty of simplicity and small-town life. Produced by Jeremy Stover, Scott Borchetta, and Paul DiGiovanni, ‘This Is My Dirt' was co-written by Moore alongside frequent collaborators like Stover, Casey Beathard, Chase McGill, and DiGiovanni.
Featuring collaborations with Blake Shelton, Dierks Bentley, and Randy Houser, the album offers both rowdy anthems and reflective ballads. For the first time, Moore recorded the entire album live in-studio with his full band, bringing a raw, confident energy to his music. Now, at 40 and a father of four, Moore remains committed to his roots, honouring the military, celebrating “small town USA,” and embracing the joys of family life—all while continuing to evolve as an artist.
Justin Moore’s eighth studio album ‘This Is My Dirt' showcases his signature sound while diving deeper into themes of family, small-town pride, and the challenges of growing older. From the opening title track to the final reflective ballad, Moore strikes a balance between his rural roots and the maturity that comes with age. The album is filled with southern anthems, heartfelt ballads, and clever, fun tracks that remind listeners why Moore has been a staple in country music for over a decade now.
The album opens with the standout track ‘This Is My Dirt,' a heartfelt tribute to staying true to one’s roots. Moore's rich, southern vocals shine as he tells the story of a family resisting the urge to sell their land, a symbol of heritage and legacy. It’s a mid-western, rural anthem filled with twangy guitars and powerful imagery, setting the tone for an album that pays homage to the simple life while addressing the complexities of holding onto it.
Moore takes a bold stance on ‘Put a Boot in It,' a funky, guitar-driven track that critiques modern country artists trading authenticity for commercial success. The song’s retro-country vibes and twangy chorus make a clear declaration of Moore’s commitment to the traditional sounds that have defined his career. This theme of authenticity continues in ‘The Worst,' a duet with Randy Houser that explores fatherhood and the desire to raise children with strong values, a song that will resonate deeply with listeners who have followed Moore and Houser’s careers over the years.
Tracks like ‘Love Your Hometown' and ‘Glad to Be Here' offer more of Moore’s trademark rural pride, while ‘Beer Ain’t One,' featuring Blake Shelton, adds some light-hearted fun to the mix. These songs are filled with familiar country tropes, from small-town loyalty to barroom camaraderie, yet they remain fresh through Moore’s engaging lyrics and dynamic melodies. ‘Love Your Hometown,' in particular is a clever song because it takes all the tropes of small town living and turns them on their heads with a twist: the song is FROM the hometown to the guy that left to serve in military!!! ‘I hope you know you damn sure make us proud, love, Your Hometown,' the town states on this big singalong, lighters in the air at gigs kind of moment.
‘Time’s Ticking,' a collaboration with Dierks Bentley, stands out as one of the strongest tracks alongside album closer ‘You Know It's Coming.' The former finds Moore urging listeners to slow down and appreciate life’s fleeting moments, backed by a rhythmic, retro-country sound. ‘Call your mama and kiss your babies,' he sings whilst Bentley urges listeners to ‘Put a little slow in your roll.' There's a lilting cadence and real earthy charm about this song, just as there is about album closer ‘You Know It's Coming.' Here we find Moore ruminating on the passing of time as children grow older and family members pass on. Pianos dominate on this deep, relatable song awash with Moore's trademark sound and a great electric guitar solo too.
In ‘This Is My Dirt' Justin Moore has created a strong, cohesive album that blends southern nostalgia with the wisdom that comes with age. While some songs flirt with the clichés of rural life, it’s the moments where Moore takes risks, like in the clever ‘F Word' or the reflective ‘You Know It’s Coming' that truly elevate the project. This album proves that Moore, now in his forties, continues to evolve as an artist, staying true to his roots while embracing the lessons learned along the way.
