2-disc 4K UHD Collector’s Edition of Ealing Comedy ‘The Man in the White Suit’ starring Alec Guinness gets release date

Alec Guinness shines, quite literally, in the 1951 Ealing Comedy ‘The Man in the White Suit'.

Now STUDIOCANAL returns it to the big screen with a brand-new 4K restoration. Directed by Alexander Mackendrick (‘The Ladykillers', ‘Whisky Galore!'), the restored film will premiere at this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival on Tuesday 19th August at 4pm, screening at the Edinburgh Filmhouse. Tickets are on sale now.

Part of STUDIOCANAL’s Vintage Classics label, the restoration celebrates the enduring brilliance of Ealing Studios, whose post-war output helped define an iconic era in British cinema. Alongside Alec Guinness, the film stars Joan Greenwood, Cecil Parker and Michael Gough, and was nominated for multiple awards.

A witty, satirical gem, ‘The Man in the White Suit' follows Sidney Stratton (Alec Guinness), a mild-mannered inventor who creates a revolutionary fabric that never wears out or gets dirty. His scientific triumph causes panic among clothing industry titans, who see his invention as a threat to their profits—and launch a campaign to suppress it, by any means necessary.

Fans can own the restored classic from 15th September as a 2-disc 4K UHD Collector’s Edition, featuring a 64-page booklet, exclusive artwork poster, and a host of special features.

For vintage film lovers and fans of sharp, socially conscious comedy, this is a must-see revival of one of British cinema’s finest moments.
