Fans of the 1970s camp fantasy drama ‘The New Avengers' can look forward to Studiocanal's definitive 4K restoration. It is the follow-up to the iconic 1960s series ‘The Avengers'. The complete first and second series of ‘The New Avengers' will be available to own on 10th November in 10-disc UHD, Blu-Ray, and DVD packages, marking the first time the show has been restored in such high definition.
Starring Patrick Macnee, Joanna Lumley, and Gareth Hunt, ‘The New Avengers' showcases the charismatic trio of Steed, Purdey, and Gambit. The crime-fighting, sophisticated gang take an assortment of James Bond-style villains in adventures that are high on espionage, high-speed car chases, and weird sci-fi threats. This collection includes all 26 episodes, featuring standout entries such as ‘The Eagle’s Nest', which sees a Nazi plot to resurrect Hitler with a guest appearance from Peter Cushing and ‘The Last of the Cybernauts…??', featuring Robert Gillespie (‘Keep It in the Family'), which sees the return of a robotic menace from the original ‘Avengers' series (a rip-off of ‘Doctor Who's Cybermen), and ‘K Is for Kill', with a cameo from Diana Rigg’s Emma Peel.
The newly restored episodes were scanned in 6K and downsampled to 4K, with careful cleaning and grading to preserve the series’ original visual style. Restoration specialists spent six months repairing scratches, splices, and inconsistencies, ensuring a seamless viewing experience. HDR has been applied subtly to enhance detail in highlights and shadows, without altering the creators’ vision.
The box set comes loaded with extras, some new, with episode introductions and audio commentaries from Joanna Lumley, Caroline Munro and other cast and crew. There's also a 64-page booklet, a 32-page comic, and featurettes including ‘The Impact of The New Avengers: Reinvented for a New Era'.
A special 4K launch event and Q&A will take place at The Riverside Cinema in Hammersmith on 9th November, previewing one episode and a new featurette, followed by a panel of special guests.
