As anticipation builds for his upcoming album ‘Broken Branches,' Dierks Bentley has released a powerful new track titled ‘Standing in the Sun'—but it’s the striking one-take video that’s capturing just as much attention as the music itself.
Filmed in real time as the sun rose over Bentley’s farm just outside of Nashville, the video pairs the song’s emotional core with a natural, glowing backdrop that enhances its message of enduring love and gratitude. With no edits or camera tricks, the visual captures a raw, intimate performance that mirrors the authenticity of the song itself.
“This is one of those songs that I never in a million years could have written on my own, but I’m so glad someone in this town did and gave me temporary custody of it for a while,” said Bentley. “Love is such a classic theme in country music, but Kyle [Sturrock] was able to write it in a way that is so personal to me…it’s the way I feel it. And, I love how sonically it builds to feel like a sunrise, tying back to the lyric of the song.”
Written by Sturrock, ‘Standing in the Sun' begins with a sparse guitar line and Bentley’s unmistakable gravelly voice, gradually building into a sweeping, emotional crescendo. It’s a standout moment leading up to ‘Broken Branches,' his 11th studio album, which arrives June 13.
The new album will feature 11 tracks, including collaborations with Miranda Lambert, John Anderson, Riley Green, and Stephen Wilson Jr., and follows Bentley’s tradition of blending country tradition with fresh perspectives. His lead single ‘She Hates Me' is already climbing the charts, and early releases like ‘Cold Beer Can' and ‘Well Well Whiskey' have drawn praise for their storytelling and rootsy energy.
Bentley will hit the road this summer on the Broken Branches Tour, kicking off May 29 in Austin, Texas, with support from Zach Top and The Band Loula. Known for his dynamic live shows and loyal fan base, Bentley continues to expand his legacy, not just in music but also with ventures like his Whiskey Row venues, lifestyle brand Desert Son, and his recently launched bourbon, ROW 94.
