Iowa-born, Nashville-based country artist Hailey Whitters has released a poignant new single, ‘I Don’t Want You,' featuring fellow singer-songwriter Charles Wesley Godwin. The tender duet, out now, explores the emotional complexity of love and conflict, highlighting the bittersweet reality that what we want in a relationship isn’t always what we need. With Whitters’ delicate vocals and Godwin’s grounded delivery, the song captures the tension of two people choosing to work through their struggles rather than walk away.
‘I Don’t Want You' is the latest track to be shared from Whitters’ highly anticipated new album ‘Corn Queen,' due out June 6 via Pigasus Records, Big Loud Records, and Songs & Daughters. Pre-orders right here. The 16-track project will also feature collaborations with Grammy winner Molly Tuttle and Texas group The Wilder Blue, promising a diverse blend of talent and styles. The album is available for pre-order and pre-save now.
Whitters shared the backstory behind the track, written alongside Jon Nite and Gordie Sampson. “It was our first time writing together and one of the few times I’ve written without a concept in mind. We just followed the feeling,” she said. “What resonates with me most is that it’s an honest and raw account of a far-from-perfect relationship. I like that this couple wants to work through it rather than just hang it up.” She also praised her duet partner, adding, “I met Charles on tour with Luke Combs and have been awestruck by his artistry ever since. I’m so thankful he said yes to this song.”
Godwin echoed the sentiment, saying, “Hailey and I’s paths have crossed a few times, both as labelmates and as part of Luke Combs' tour last year. I was thrilled when she asked me to join her on ‘I Don’t Want You.’ Country music has a long history of duets, and it was fun to join in on that tradition and help this song come to life.”
In celebration of the album’s release, Whitters will perform an in-store set at Grimey’s in Nashville on June 6 at 4:00 p.m. Fans can pre-order Corn Queen on vinyl or CD through Grimeys.com or in person at the store to receive a wristband for the signing.
With emotional honesty, lyrical depth, and a standout duet that pays homage to country traditions, “I Don’t Want You” offers a promising glimpse into what ‘Corn Queen' has in store.
