The demand for good quality headsets is higher than ever thanks to the popularity of music and gaming. The audio experience is almost as important as the gaming experience now for console owners, and there are plenty of options on the market. Canyon’s GTWS-2 Gaming DoubleBee Headset is aiming at the lower end, attempting to provide good value for money with decent sound quality but does it succeed?
The design of the Canyon GTWS-2 Gaming DoubleBee Headset case is really eye-catching. It looks like something out of ‘Transformers’ and is sure to appeal to kids, who will likely be its target market. The case opens by lifting each of the two front halves and once open you can see the level of charge on the headset in the LED panel at the top. The headphones make a noise as they activate and there are panels of colour that flash on the sides to denote if they’re ready and when they’re paired. They’re also speedy to recharge when the battery is low.
The headphones themselves are a little chunky and I struggled to keep them in my ears. They are thick plastic, which makes them lightweight, but they’re not necessarily the comfiest earphones you’ll come across. The ear feel isn’t great either as there’s no cushion between the plastic and the ear.

Sound-quality wise, the headset is fairly decent but quite limited. When listening to music, I noticed that the sound was tinnier than I’d expect and the headset struggles with belting vocals and heavy bass. I found similar when using them while playing a game; you can definitely hear the sound fine but the depth and range isn’t as good as you’d expect.
What I found hardest was pairing the headset in the first place. The instructions that come with them are clear as mud and it was through an hour of trial and error that I finally got them to connect to my device. Honestly, I’ve still no idea how I managed it and I was on the verge of giving up by the time they decided to connect. I’ll also say that while the case offers over 37 hours of charge, the headset lasts around 4 hours while being used so it’s not great for an all-day gaming marathon.
At such a low price point, £19.99 currently (reduced from £29.99), it’s hard to complain too much about the Canyon GTWS-2 Gaming DoubleBee Headset. Is it the best gaming headset on the market? No but it will likely be sufficient for those who want affordable earphones that offer decent sound levels. For a little more, you can definitely get better headset but if budget is your primary concern then these aren’t the worst option out there.
