Review: the Canyon Power Bank Onpower 600 is seriously impressive

We’ve all been there. You take your phone out after arriving for a night out, only to discover it’s practically dead and you’ve no way of charging it. Society has become so reliant on their smart phones that having a portable charger is an absolute must. Gone are the days when we took the plug and cable with us, now it’s vital we have a power bank on us at all times. Well say hello to the Canyon Power Bank Onpower 600, a new addition to the ever-growing power bank market.

Over the years I’ve owned many power banks and I’m always sceptical about how good they are. The old fad of power charger cases seems to have died a death and now it’s all about having a decent power bank that you can chuck in your bag or pocket when you leave the house. The Canyon Power Bank Onpower 600 certainly looks impressive on paper. It’s boasts an impressive 20,000mAh capacity, with the promise of keeping your devices powered for days. Add to that the PD 65W Fast Charge, and the reasonable price point of £47.99, and this looks like a very attractive product indeed.

The power bank has a built in 65W cable that you just plug into the USB-C socket on your phone (or device). When you’re not using the cable, you can retract it and it forms a makeshift handle to carry the power bank with. I really liked this aspect of the design and the quality of the power bank is impressive. The side of the power bank has USB-A and USB-C connections, giving it further flexibility and compatibility for your devices. It also allows you to use longer cables if the in-built one is too short. The power bank is also fire proof, so that should tell you how well built it is.

But does it deliver? I was actually very impressed during testing. The initial charge took a few hours (I left it charging over night) but it’s easy to keep an eye on its progress thanks to the display screen on the front. That screen is super handy to keep checking how much power you have left once its charged, and gives you plenty of warning when you need to recharge. For me, the true test of how good a power bank is, is how many charges it can give your phone. The Canyon Power Bank Onpower 600 gave my phone around 5 full charges when it was charged to full. Even better, it was very speedy to charge my phone. In around 20 minutes there was a significant charge increase, and often I didn’t need to leave it longer than that.

There is one downside, and it’s a downside that’s common with the majority of power banks; it’s fairly weighty. It’s also fairly bulky so it’s not the easiest power bank on the market to carry around. Don’t let that put you off though because the positives far outweigh the negatives.

The Canyon Power Bank Onpower 600 is seriously impressive. At a fairly low-cost point, it’s one of the best power banks on the market that I’ve tested. Despite its bulkiness and weight, the power bank is powerful enough to win you over. Most power banks I’ve tried haven’t given anywhere near the amount of charges this one does, and at the end of the day that’s what you want – a reliable charger that isn’t going to die after a couple of charges.
