After 14 years, country music fans are finally getting a new solo album from Jamey Johnson. Today, the acclaimed singer-songwriter releases ‘Midnight Gasoline,' his first studio album with Warner Music Nashville. To accompany the release, CMT debuted the music video for the album’s single, ‘Someday When I’m Old,' which is airing across CMT platforms, including a major feature on the Paramount Times Square Billboard.

The music video, which Johnson conceptualized and executive produced, features him giving advice to a younger version of himself. Directed by Joel Robertson, the innovative video uses a blend of AI technology and post-editing to depict both young and current-day Johnson. Through advanced AI processing, photos of Johnson from his youth were digitally “de-aged” and projected onto a stand-in actor, creating a seamless visual of his younger self.
“The idea behind the video is if I could go back and meet the younger version of me, what would I say? Or would I?” Johnson explained. The video is filled with personal touches, featuring his cherished guitar, Ole Maple, his old 1986 Dodge truck from his early Nashville days, and the actual clothes he wore in his music video for ‘The Dollar.' Even the photos in the wallets shown are real snapshots of his daughter.
Reflecting on his younger days, Johnson recalled the inspiration behind the song: “The first line in the song says, ‘Someday when I’m old, I’ll pull up to the store and park wherever the hell I want to.’ That reminds me of when I first moved to Nashville. I parked my old Dodge in front of Tootsie’s and went in to play, only to find it towed the next time I tried it. It’s like my older self is telling that younger version that one day I’ll have the freedom I was chasing back then.”
‘Midnight Gasoline' is the debut album in Johnson’s Cash Cabin Series, recorded at the legendary Cash Cabin Studio in Hendersonville, Tennessee—once owned by Johnny and June Carter Cash and now managed by their son, John Carter Cash. Known as “Cash One,” the album picks up where Johnson left off with his platinum-certified ‘That Lonesome Song' and the gold-certified ‘The Guitar Song,' both of which solidified his reputation in country music.
The album includes a roster of talented co-writers, featuring big names like Jim “Moose” Brown, Dallas Davidson, Randy Houser, and Chris Stapleton, alongside tracks written by country icons such as Dean Dillon and Aimee Mayo. In addition to ‘Someday When I’m Old,' fans can enjoy other songs released in recent months, including '21 Guns,' ‘What a View,' ‘Trudy,' ‘Sober' and ‘Saturday Night in New Orleans.'
With ‘Midnight Gasoline,' Johnson delivers a soulful, introspective collection that bridges the past and present, resonating deeply with fans old and new.
