To celebrate Johnson has released brand new song, ‘Someday When I'm Old.' This is an impactful, powerful song that forces the listener to confront their own mortality. Songs like this don't come around in Country music – think ‘Whiskey Lullaby,' think ‘I Hope You Dance,' think ‘Humble & Kind' – it's that good of a song with also something important to say.
This new project also signifies Johnson's first release with Warner Music Nashville and the beginning of his Cash Cabin Series. Recorded at the legendary Cash Cabin Studio in Hendersonville, Tennessee—once owned by Johnny and June Carter Cash and now operated by their son, John Carter Cash—'Midnight Gasoline' holds special significance for Johnson. He spent three weeks recording about 30 songs in the famed studio, even parking his bus outside to stay immersed in the creative environment.
“I’ve always wanted to make an album there,” Johnson shared. “The place has a spirit—maybe from Johnny and June, or from all the artists who have recorded there. It feels like home to me.”
‘Midnight Gasoline,' referred to as Cash One, continues the musical journey from Johnson’s last two solo albums, That Lonesome Song (certified platinum) and The Guitar Song (gold-certified), which both received critical acclaim. The ‘Cash One' album features 12 tracks, with no specific theme, but instead offers a reflection of Johnson’s life. “Some of the songs are funny stories, and some are deeply personal,” he said. “It’s good to get them out there.”
The album’s first half was produced by Johnson's long-time collaborators, The Kent Hardly Playboys, while the second half was produced by the acclaimed Dave Cobb, who also worked with Johnson on his earlier projects. “Dave was brilliant, as usual. I have nothing but deep respect for him,” Johnson noted.
Featuring co-writers like Chris Stapleton, Jim “Moose” Brown, and Randy Houser, ‘Midnight Gasoline' highlights Johnson’s commitment to collaboration. Tracks already released from the album include '21 Guns,' ‘What a View,' ‘Trudy' and ‘Sober.'
As the countdown to November 8 begins, fans can expect a mix of raw storytelling and heartfelt reflection that is quintessential Jamey Johnson.
