‘Neighbours’ is teasing a devastating main character death in next week’s episodes and viewers are eagerly debating who they think the victim might be.

A promo released by Amazon Freevee shows Aaron (Matt Wilson), David (Takaya Honda), Nicolette (Hannah Monson), Leo (Tim Kano) and Krista (Majella Davis) embarking on a holiday together, and it teases that one character won’t be returning home. The storyline will see the culmination of both Nicolette’s torment at the hands of Veronica (Ellen Grimshaw) and Krista’s day of reckoning with Eden (Costa D’Angelo).
Just to recap, Nicolette is being stalked and her life turned upside down by Veronica, a woman who believes her husband Sasha (Sunny S. Walia) left her because Nicolette had an affair with him. Despite protesting that she was just stringing him along, Veronica has continued to torment Nicolette and her behaviour has been escalating in an alarming fashion.
For Krista, she was saved from the clutches of Eden by Hollie (Lucinda Armstrong-Hall) and Haz (Shiv Palekar) when everyone thought Melanie (Lucinda Cowden) had accidentally murdered her. Eden was arrested and put behind bars, but it looks like he’s out and ready to exact revenge.
Absent from the Amazon Freevee promo but included in the Network 10 promo, the Australian channel that airs the show, are Karl (Alan Fletcher), Terese (Rebekah Elmaloglou), Jane (Annie Jones), Toadie (Ryan Moloney) and Susan (Jackie Woodburne). Interesting it also shows Aaron and David but there’s no mention of Nicolette, Krista or Leo.
Taking both promos into consideration, it’s highly unlikely that Karl, Susan, Toadie, Jane or Terese are in danger. They are all pivotal characters in the show and at this point, they’re part of the fabric of the soap. If the Network 10 promo is accurate, that means we’re looking at either Aaron or David to be the victim. Would the soap really kill off one half of the show’s most popular couples?
Initially I didn’t think so but David is the number one guess from fans of the show on social media. It’s widely know that actor Takaya Honda was going to leave the show before it came to an abrupt end last year, but his return with Matt Wilson as Aaron suggested that the couple would be in for the long haul once again. Still, fans seem to think that David will be killed off and his love story with Aaron is going to be cut short.
Honestly, if David is the victim then I’m going to be disappointed. The character has gone through a great arc since returning to Erinsborough. He’s helped Krista to beat her addiction and readjust to normal life, and he’s slowly being finding his purpose again following being struck off the medical register for manslaughter. David was also making plans to buy the house he and Aaron used to live in from Leo. His death wouldn’t only impact on Aaron, it would likely send Krista off the rails again and it could further send Melanie into a spiral after the two seemingly were on the cusp of restarting their drinks business.
It would also cause problems with Nicolette as Aaron would inevitably blame her for David’s death, assuming that it’s Veronica that causes it. Aaron would be left to co-parent Isla only with Nicolette, which would make things very interesting and the street a pretty tense place to be.
