Long-running Australian soap ‘Neighbours' is to be axed again it has been confirmed by the show's official account.
The show originally came to an end in 2022 but was saved later that year in a new deal between Fremantle and Amazon Freevee. Picked up for a 2-year deal, the show has frequently topped the charts on Prime Video in the UK but it has struggled to achieve the same success in other parts of the world.
The official Instagram account for the show posted: “We are sad to announce that Neighbours will be resting from December 2025. New episodes from the 40th anniversary season will continue to air on Prime Video and Ten four times a week until the end of the year, with all the big soapie twists and turns that our viewers love. Jason Herbison, Neighbours Executive Producer said: “Audiences all around the world have loved and embraced Neighbours for four decades and we are very proud of the huge success over the last two years including often appearing as one of the Top 10 titles in the UK and the show’s first ever Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Daytime Series in 2024. As this chapter closes, we appreciate and thank Amazon MGM Studios for all that they have done for Neighbours – bringing this iconic and much-loved series to new audiences globally. We value how much the fans love Neighbours and we believe there are more stories of the residents of Ramsay Street to tell in the future.”
Fans are clinging on to the wording ‘Neighbours will be resting', taking that as a sign that Fremantle are shopping the show around trying to find a new home. Can the show be saved again?
Since launching on Amazon Freevee in 2023, ‘Neighbours' has seen plenty of new characters arriving. Fans have noticed that long-serving cast members such as Alan Fletcher and Jackie Woodburne who play Karl and Susan Kennedy, have been taking extended breaks from the show, and the focus has shifted to new and guest characters.
‘Neighbours' will remain on air until December 2025 but at the time of writing this article, it's looking very likely that this will be the definitive end for the show.
