Folk band Heisk to release new album ‘Headstrong’ in January 2024

Six-woman folk band Heisk will release new album ‘Headstrong) via The Bothy Society on 26th January 2024.

The album's first single ‘Tehi-Tegi' is out now and the band has confirmed they will play an album launch show at Celtic Connections 2024 on 25th January at Glasgow Tramway.

Speaking about the single, Heisk said: “'Tehi-Tegi' is inspired by a witch from Manx Folklore. Her story, often told through the male gaze, depicts the powerful witch as an enchantress. This track celebrates her power in a different light and is a homage to all the magical women in our lives.”

Heisk’s eponymous debut album marked the arrival of a ground-breaking new force on the folk and roots music scene. The band re-defined the traditional music landscape by infusing Scottish roots with contemporary energy and prioritised a commitment to gender diversity.

Their new album ‘Headstrong' goes beyond music creation; it involves an ambitious mentoring programme to develop opportunities for underrepresented young women and gender minorities in traditional music. This programme encompasses various areas of the industry, from recording and producing to mixing, instrumental performance, marketing, business, and live shows. Notably, this initiative follows the entire production of Heisk's second album, from recording to release, underlining their dedication to enfranchising the next generation of musicians while continuing to break new ground in traditional Scottish folk music.
