Zara McDermott, a broadcaster, content creator, and former government policy advisor is the seventh celebrity confirmed for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ 2023.
McDermott, a rising star in the broadcasting world, brings her multi-faceted talents to the ‘Strictly’ stage. Before her fame, she worked as a government policy advisor for the Department of Energy and Climate Change and the Department of Education. However, it was her appearance on ‘Love Island’ in 2018 that catapulted her into the limelight.
Passionate about creating impactful content, Zara has successfully fronted five documentaries for the BBC. Her thought-provoking films, including ‘Revenge Porn’, ‘Uncovering Rape Culture’, and ‘Disordered Eating’, aim to inspire conversations and educate young people on important social issues. Beyond her documentary work, McDermott has presented ‘Love In The Flesh’ on BBC Three.
Beyond her broadcasting career, McDermott has actively advocated for social causes close to her heart. Recognising the power of her platform, she has worked alongside the government, the Home Office, and charity organisations to end violence against women and girls. Her efforts led to significant legal changes, benefiting victims of digital abuse.
McDermott’s commitment to young people’s welfare and education has earned her recognition and respect. She has been invited to Clarence House by the Duchess of Cornwall and Refuge charity and worked with the Duchess on a visit to a Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC). Her advocacy work extends to being an ambassador for the ‘Shaping Us’ campaign launched by Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales for the Centre of Early Childhood.
He joins the previously announced Amanda Abbington, Angela Rippon CBE, Layton Williams, Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Eddie Kadi and Angela Scanlon. ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ returns to BBC One and BBC iPlayer this autumn.
