Comedian Eddie Kadi confirmed as fifth contestant for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ 2023

Eddie Kadi, the multi-award-winning stand-up comedian and radio presenter, is the fifth celebrity confirmed for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ 2023.

Kadi’s talents have earned him recognition as one of the most celebrated stand-up personalities worldwide. As a British-Congolese comedian, he has a unique ability to connect with audiences across cultures and continents. With his signature brand of brilliant, bold, and high-energy entertainment, Kadi has amassed a large and devoted international fanbase. Notably, he achieved a significant milestone as the first British black comedian to headline the iconic O2 Arena in London.

Kadi’s reach extends beyond the comedy stage. He has had the honour of hosting the official red carpet show for BET International and BET Africa in Los Angeles. Additionally, he has been the main stage host for the prestigious Afro Nation Festivals held across the globe. His charisma and wit have also led him to host the MOBO Awards and appear on various TV formats, showcasing his versatility and talent.

Listeners of BBC Radio 1Xtra are familiar with Kadi as he fronts The Official Afrobeats Chart Show. On ITV, he serves as a Team Captain on the entertainment format ‘Sorry I Didnā€™t Know’. This year, Kadi’s achievements have been further recognised with nominations for both the prestigious Royal Television Society Best Breakthrough Award and Best Breakthrough Presenter at the Edinburgh TV Awards. Furthermore, he is currently working on his own documentary in collaboration with Channel 4.

Expressing his enthusiasm for joining ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, Kadi said, “WOW. Anyone who knows me, understands that music and dance is so important and central to who I am. The news of Kadi’s inclusion was revealed during The Official UK Afrobeats Chart Show with Eddie Kadi on BBC Radio 1Xtra.

He joins the previously announced Amanda Abbington, Angela Rippon CBE, Layton Williams and Krishnan Guru-Murthy. ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ returns to BBC One and BBC iPlayer this autumn.
