Megan O’Neill has released new single Rootless, the first from her forthcoming fourth studio album.
Rootless was co-written with Mark Sullivan and tells the story of a protagonist never planting roots anywhere and never particularly wanting to. Watch the video below:
Speaking on the song O’Neill says that it’s not necessarily about her life now as she does feel that she has strong roots at home in Ireland, but at the time of writing she certainly felt a bit rootless living in London.
Megan says “I think we can all relate to the feeling of sometimes wanting to pack a bag and run away and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes we need that escape from reality and everyday life” but she also states that she is glad she has roots of her own. “I love Ireland and I do feel a strong connection with it on every level – especially as I’ve gotten older”.
Produced by long-time collaborators The Dunwells, the full-length album is due for release in mid-2020.
O’Neill has recently been selected as the lead female in Universal Music’s new album project and Roadshow titled Now That’s What I Call Country Music.
Rootless is available to stream and download now.
