Battle Royale games and PUBG, in particular, are not normally known for their deep story. As far as I’m aware there have been little to no hints as to what PUBG is actually about other than trying to kill the other players whilst not getting dead.
In the lead up to the fourth season, PUBG Corp has released a trailer detailing the first official lore for the game. The trailer takes place on Erangel, PUBG’s first map, showing a kid who ends up being the sole survivor of a vicious attack. Fast forward many years and we see the same boy has grown into a man and he’s clearly got a fair few quid in his pocket.
He’s sat in front of a bank of screens watching the now familiar PUBG action unfold before him. He is clearly now the guy who organizes the PUBG Battle Royale tournaments.

I imagine there will be more lore introduced as time goes on as PUBG Corp recently took on Glen Schofield to head up a new studio focussing on “an original narrative experience within the PUBG universe.”
