“The Folio Society’s splendid new editions of the Song of Ice and Fire series are masterpieces of the bookmaker’s art…”
So says author George R. R. Martin about The Folio Society’s newly-published two-volume collector’s edition of A Game of Thrones, which represents the first in their landmark series of A Song of Ice and Fire. The books are bound in three-quarter blocked cloth with a printed and blocked cloth front board and boast 6 full-page and 2 double-page colour illustrations per volume.
The books are truly a feast for the eyes. Award-winning illustrator Jonathan Burton’s glorious colour illustrations take the reader deeper into the realms of Westeros than ever before.
Lavish binding designs are blocked with striking images of wolves, stags and lions, against shimmering gold and silver landscapes.
This attention to detail extends to the black and gold chapter heading illustrations and endpapers plus a special colour image hidden on the inside of the slipcase. Also included in this spectacular set is a colour map of The Known World, printed as a separate volume which folds out to reveal the full splendour of George R. R. Martin’s creation.
In an exclusive introduction, celebrated fantasy author Joe Abercrombie delves into how this book changed the landscape of the fantasy genre.
Family trees showing the titles, ranks and relationships within the houses are included at the end of the novel, alongside newly drawn sigils.
Readers can win one of ten unfolded and unbound maps suitable for framing by posting photos or videos showing their reaction when they unbox their books using the hashtag #GOTmyFolio by 22nd July 2019.
