Shaun (Freddie Highmore) drew on his own experience to help a young patient with fragile X syndrome on the latest episode of The Good Doctor.
The boy injured himself and his mother, and Shaun believed the boy should be put into a group home to help him. Dr. Melendez (Nicholas Gonzalez) refused to let the doctors interfere but he was eventually convinced to step in and make the recommendation to the boy’s mother.
Through flashbacks we saw a glimpse into Shaun’s life when he lived with a tough foster mother who became terminally ill.
Meanwhile Dr. Lim (Christina Chang), Claire (Antonia Thomas) and Morgan (Fiona Gubelmann) treated an 18-year-old free climber. They recommended a risky surgery but the girl’s parents refused and claimed medical incompetence by saying their daughter was suicidal.
Elsewhere Glassman (Richard Schiff) continued to see his dead daughter and Shaun rented a two-bedroom apartment for him and Lea (Paige Spara) without asking her first.
The next episode of the season is Carrots. Shaun worries Glassman’s refusal to walk the hospital floor will keep him from being discharged, so tries to persuade him to ambulate.
