AmericanaFest UK returns to London in January 2019

AmericanaFest UK returns to Hackney, East London for its fourth year from Tuesday 29th to Thursday 31st January 2019.

The 3-day event features two days of conferences and showcases followed by a third day of events and the UK Americana Awards 2019. For the 2019 event, the conference venue is bigger and there will be 48 artists showcasing at 4 venues over 2 days from the UK, USA and Canada.

The awards will take place at the Hackney Empire on Thursday 31st January 2019. The nominations will be unveiled on Wednesday 7th November 2018.

AMA-UK CEO Stevie Freeman says, ā€œI am excited to be launching AmericanaFest UK 2019 and to announce the nominations for the UK Americana Awards. 2018 has been quite a year for AMA-UK: after our prestigious Awards, we hosted stages at seven festivals across the UK, and we had 18 UK artists showcasing at AmericanaFest over in Nashville, Tennessee.ā€

The artist spotlight for the 2019 event will be conducted by BBC Ulsterā€™s Ralph McLean chatting with Ray Benson from Asleep at the Wheel. Bob Harris will be in conversation with John Oates and Rhiannon Giddens will be giving the keynote speech.

Giddens commented: ā€œIā€™m very excited to see what the UK is doing with the genre of Americana, so Iā€™m honored to be the keynote speaker for 2019ā€™s AMA-UK conference.ā€

AmericanaFest UK is open to non-members who want to just attend the showcase gigs. For tickets and more information, visit https://theamauk.org/.
