A brand new trailer has arrived for what could be the best family film this Christmas – Mary Poppins Returns.
Emily Blunt (A Quiet Place) stars as Mary Poppins in this sequel to the beloved classic that originally starred Julie Andrews as the enigmatic nanny.
The film, directed by Rob Marshall (Into The Woods), is set to be released in cinemas nationwide on 21st December and is sure to deliver yet another dose of Disney magic, just in time for the festive season too.
Mary Poppins Returns has a wonderful supporting cast too. Colin Firth, Meryl Streep, Emily Mortimer, Dick Van Dyke, Ben Whishaw, Angela Lansbury, Julie Walters, Lin-Manuel Miranda, David Warner, Joel Dawson, Nathanael Saleh, Jeremy Swift and Pixie Davies all co-star in the movie.
It’s Depression-era London, and a now grown-up Jane and Michael Banks (along with Michael’s three children), are visited by the magical Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.
The trailer is full of wow moments, and it seems to have captured just the right essence to make this a worthy watch alongside the legendary original. The first thing that strikes you is how brilliant Emily Blunt looks in the role of Mary Poppins. It feels like she was born to play the part.
Fresh from conquering the world with Hamilton, Moana and a host of other projects, Lin-Manuel Miranda does an admirable job playing a Brit. The voice of Paddington himself Ben Whishaw and national treasure Emily Mortimer look great as the grown-up Michael and Jane Banks, and we’ll watch anything Colin Firth is in.
But the trailer holds a magical cameo – that of screen legend Dick Van Dyke, who looks just as sprightly and energetic as he did in the original Mary Poppins.
