The First Purge: watch the PSA aimed at the Pioneers

The latest instalment in The Purge franchise will take the story back to the very beginning as the events of The First Purge unfold.

In anticipation of the film arriving this week, a Public Service Announcement (PSA) has been released aimed at the Pioneers, the very first people to partake in the government experiment known as The Purge. The PSA outlines the rules of The Purge and advises those who don’t want to take part, how to make that clear so they are left alone.

Behind every tradition lies a revolution. Next Independence Day, witness the rise of our countryā€™s 12 hours of annual lawlessness. Welcome to the movement that began as a simple experiment: The First Purge.

To push the crime rate below one percent for the rest of the year, the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) test a sociological theory that vents aggression for one night in one isolated community. But when the violence of oppressors meets the rage of the marginalized, the contagion will explode from the trial-city borders and spread across the nation.

The First Purge is the follow-up to The Purge: Election Year, released in 2016, which is the most successful film at the global box office to date. It took over $118.5 million from a $10 million budget.

The film stars Y’Lan Noel, Lex Scott Davis, Joivan Wade, Luna Lauren Velez and Marisa Tomei. It is directed Gerard McMurray and written by creator James DeMonaco. The First Purge is produced by Blumhouse Productionsā€™ Jason Blum (Insidious series, Get Out, Split), Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Ouija series, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), and DeMonacoā€™s longtime production partner, SĆ©bastien K. Lemercier (Assault on Precinct 13, Four Lovers).

The First Purge is released in UK cinemas on 4th July 2018.
